Getting Drenched with Elder Wright

I tried sending pictures again but the computers here are really weird so I don't know how yet and neither does anyone else here at the moment.  The area that we cover is pretty small and most of the people that we usually teach or try are not too far from the apartment.  Things were great this week and we were able to find some investigators and teach more lessons in the afternoon than usual.  Elder Stojka has been serving 3 transfers less than me, just like Elder Wilmoth.  He like board games, movies, and Elvis Presley.  I love how friendly the members are and how the ward council really wants to find people to teach and takes part in the work instead of just expecting us to do the work for them.  We have been in the rain a few times but we missed most of the big storms.  On Tuesday last week I went on exchange with Elder Wright and we didn't think it was going to rain that morning and it did so we got drenched on Wednesday morning before we came back to re exchange.  

In our teaching pool we have Brad Thompson, he has been taught by missionaries in the past and now wants to be baptized more than ever.  We watched 2 sessions of conference with him on Saturday and set a baptismal date for the 22nd.  He just needs to stop smoking and he will be good to get baptized.  The rest of our teaching pool has been hard to contact and I hope next week I will have updates on how they are doing.  In our area we have a couple big apartment complexes and everything from nice big houses to areas with lots of homeless people.  I loved watching conference this weekend, I am so grateful for our inspired leaders to teach us about how we can love others and better follow our Savior.

No Investigators, But Working Hard

M y misery last week was self inflicted of course, from a bad attitude and not wanting to work as hard as I should.  I read a letter that my companion had that really opened my eyes to parts of missionary work.  It spoke of a missionary who had some amazing experiences through hard work and opposition.  One of the biggest ones was what he learned in a prayer that the Lord knows where his elect are, but he also wants us to grow so that requires some sifting at times.  The Lord loves us, watches over us and knows what I am going through.  We had a wonderful specialized training from our leaders about exercising more faith as our mission is baptizing very few at the moment.  We don't have any serious investigators at the moment at the moment, but that will just give us more time to work hard to find prepared people.  We have been working harder to pray and search for families that will strengthen the ward because they could really use all the extra suppor...

Brook Rodriguez' Baptism

This week was so amazing as Brooke Rodriguez loves the gospel so much and made another step back to our Heavenly home by being baptized.  Everyone needs the gospel and the Lord has entrusted us with his message so that all of his children may learn how to find peace in this crazy world.  General Conference is coming up soon and so we have been listening to old talks in our apartment and o ne that  I greatly enjoyed was Pray in Faith by Elder Bednar.  It really got me thinking about the things that I am praying for and about and how I can better plan to act on things instead of asking.  In his talk he mentions that we do a great job praying for missionaries to find people to teach,  " But ultimately it is my responsibility and your responsibility to find people for the missionaries to teach. Missionaries are full-time teachers; you and I are full-time finders." I reflected upon his statement it reminded me that we have so much to learn here on earth and that...

Forced to Order Seconds

Sorry no pictures this week, the computer did not like the usb stick.  This has been such a wonderful week, I cannot believe that I have been in this ward for over a month now, it feels like I got here only a few days ago, I love the people hear so much, even when they don't feel like coming to church.  Tuesday we were in Fresno and set up like 4 appointments most fell through so we were only able to finally figure that a less active who called us, Jen, is not married legally to her nonmember husband, they did some sort of Elvis wedding, so she is technically under our jurisdiction but her husband does not appear to be too interested at the moment be we are going to see what we can do about that.  Wednesday was fun as we were able to go out to the vineyard again to help with clearing up weeds and pruning.  Some of the members have decided that I need lessons on job interview skills, so those are so much fun.  Thursday was New Years, so we had to be back by 8 and...
